Shiv Sena will not tolerate Bollywood dominance

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer "Tiger Zinda Hai" release has come under fire from the MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) and Shiv Sena because Marathi film, "Deva", that was slated for a release on the same day, are left with no shows because of Salman Khan's big-budget film "Tiger Zinda Hai".

President of the film wing of the MNS, Amey Khopkar, stated during a press conference, "We are not against any film per se. But there is a law in Maharashtra that says that one prime time slot should be given to Marathi films. They are brazenly flouting it. If YRF is not willing to spare any screens for a Marathi film, they should not forget that their films are shot in Maharashtra and Mumbai. And multiplex owners should also keep this in mind." The lead actor of Marathi film "Deva" Ankush Choudhary added, "We want the state government to intervene in this matter. This will hurt small films like us and we will be left with nowhere to go to."

MNS leader Shalini Thackeray said, "Marathi films must be given prime-time shows. "Deva" wasn't given screen space against Tiger Zinda Hai. If the Hindi film industry takes screen space at the expense of Marathi films, we will oppose it. We haven't threatened anyone, want screen space for Deva."

MP of Shiv Sena also added to this debate, "These big fishes (Tiger Zinda Hai) are trying to eat small ones. This dadagiri is done only in Mumbai and Maharashtra. Those who are doing this should remember that Shiv Sena's tiger too is zinda," said Sanjay Raut.

However, the NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) tagged the whole controversy with the name of publicity stunt. Spokesperson Nawab Malik said, "This is nothing but an attempt to publicise the film. Both Raj Thackeray and Salman Khan are good friends and they do this, since both stands to gain publicity."
